Darrell Priestley

Hugely experienced, both as a performer and teacher, Darrell began performing aged 11, becoming semi-professional from 12. His performing career has taken him around Britain and Europe, with venues such as Queen Elizabeth Hall London, plus numerous appearances at Birmingham’s prestigious Symphony Hall, as both soloist and Musical Director. While he has limited his professional appearances since 2002, preferring to devote himself to his pivotal role as Founding Principal of the Northern Music Academy, Darrell remains active as a composer, particularly for solo piano.

Jessica Priestley

Jessica teaches the piano, flute, composition and music theory to students from as young as four to adults. Jessica has prepared students for grades, public performances (including concert tours abroad) and G.C.S.E and A level music. Although she is young, she already has 20 years of musical experience behind her.

Jessica began learning the organ at the age of 4. By the time she was 5 she had her first public performance. At the age of 6 she ventured further a field taking up the flute as an additional instrument. However, just 7 years old she performed solo on the organ to an audience of 2,500 at Birmingham Symphony Hall playing part of ‘Brahm’s Academic Festival Overture’. Alongside learning the organ, Jessica enjoyed playing the keyboard and piano and has enjoyed performing in front of small and large audiences, including concert tours to France, Spain and Italy. Through her practice she has developed a wide range of skills involved in performing solo through to those required when performing in a group.

Jessica attended Leeds College of Music and has a BA Hons in Popular Music. Jessica majored in composition. After completing her degree, she attended The University of Leeds and attained a P.G.C.E in Primary Education. Jessica is especially liked by the younger students and their parents as she communicates with parents at the end of each lesson, providing feedback on their child’s performance.

Jessica has a deep passion for music and describes her musical taste as ‘eclectic’ as she enjoys listening to, playing and composing different styles of music (she especially enjoys Latin and Jazz). Jessica believes that music is a universal language that can be enjoyed by everyone and that every individual has a right to, and is capable of, learning music.
